Cost of Ankle Liposuction

Ankle Liposuction Cost…

The cost for Ankle Liposuction is approximately $4,500 to $8,000. This usually includes the surgeon fee, anaesthetist, anaesthetic, theatre and garment fees and follow up visits. Before the procedure, obtain a written quote breaking down which costs are included.

These prices are a general guide and vary based on how much fat is being removed from the ankles and/or calves. You may be able to claim some of the costs from private health insurance. Medicare does not cover the cost of cosmetic procedures. Ask your surgeon for information about any rebates.

Ankle Liposuction Surgery

The operation involves the surgeon making an incision just near the protruding ankle bones on either side of the foot. Once the incision is made, a cannula is used to suction out excess fat, contouring the ankle area to a nice shape. Since the area is small and precise a micro-cannula is used rather than the larger cannula generally utilised for other liposuction procedures. Wounds are then closed with sutures. Ankle liposuction is usually carried out as an outpatient operation under local anaesthetic. It takes approximately half an hour to an hour.

Ankle Liposuction Recovery

After the operation, your ankles will have compression bandages and a dressing. You may experience tenderness and some pain. Your surgeon may prescribe you with pain killers. When you get home you should take some rest and elevate the legs. The ankle area will be swollen and bruised. Most of the swelling should subside within a week. However, it takes approximately three months to attain full recovery from ankle liposuction. At this stage, you should notice your cankles have disappeared, giving way to a more toned and slender physique.

Ankle Liposuction Risks

As with any other cosmetic surgery, there are risks involved in ankle liposuction including:

  • Achilles & soleus tendon – the surgeon must take care not to affect the tendons in the ankles. Any damage can impair function of the ankle. The risk of this occurring is very low.
  • Scarring – some scars will be visible after the operation, however this is very minimal.
  • Infection – this complication can arise with any operation and is treated with antibiotics.
